Magellan Sketches

It's a little more detailed than my previos posts, but I'm actually still roughing in the basic look. He looks more of a bad guy here, maybe even too goofy looking, and that's a big problem. He is kinda bit older as well. I actually wanted him to be in his 40s, maybe even late 30s. I think one more page sketching then I can finalize Magellan's look, basically going to include some turnarounds, extreme poses, and facial expressions.
what do you guys think?

Native Warriors

More Ideation/sketches. Warriors based on the "Igorots. Not the tribe that fought magellan but they have the cool tattoos. Also added some filipino mythical creatures for fun.

Magellan's Crew

Rough ideations/sketches for Magellan's crew. Maybe add more sailors or just Magellan himself, then finally the native warriors afterwards.

Grave Robber Color Test

With all the busy projects going, I manage to find some little time to paint the Grave Robber. Ben wanted a basic color scheme to distinguish different materials. This is what I have for now, maybe not even the final color yet.

The Making of Samurai Jack

A short segment on Andy's favorite cartoon show. Possibly one of the most aesthetically appealing cartoons ever.

Character Guide Template

Here's the basic character template I'm going to use for the Grave Robber. Design is not yet final, a little more tweaking on the proportions and outfit, but the overall look will be pretty much intact: skull mask, large jaw, hunched back, pot belly, etc. Next step is to pick three solid characters from my ideation, give several poses, and maybe exaggerated some actions.

Grave Robber Ideation

Ben and I are currently collaborating on a project. Here's the ideation for one of our characters. I was planning to animate them in 2d, that's why I did line ideations instead of silhouettes. But I'll have to wait for the final design to make any decisions. Bellow are some of the earliest concepts for the Grave Robber.
Eventually tried to come up with a final design:
But it looked very similar to Jack Skellington, so back to the drawing board again:
You can probably tell there's a Halloween theme involved. We haven't really come up with a solid story yet. We're just gonna approach it the "western" style, come-up with a bunch of characters and build stories around them...Ben's going to model the characters in maya, maybe animate some simple stuff, but basically just a fun exercise for us.

Late, but Angela is done for now.

I need to work on my shadows . . . and do a crash coarse on metals in Photoshop. Still, I like what I managed to do with this project.

Angela - Gargoyles

Angela from Gargoyles. Here I am thinking older, in human years around 50ish, or around 100 o so in Gargoyle terms. Gargoyles age half the pace of humans due to them turning to stone in the day. In the series she was around 20ish.
Occupation - Gargoyle Special Forces (GSF) created to maintain peace between Gargoyles and Humans given a large increase in gargoyle numbers.

Angela - Gargoyles

Ill be drawing Angela for the new challenge, since I always loved the Gargoyle series. I will be going for an aged looked in a future scene.

Bad Company "work in progress"

Pretty rough, and I didn't get it all done the way I wanted, but I really did leave my comfort zone behind with this one. Some time soon I will get back to it, but overall I like the progress made. Onto the next challenge!

Kinda pushed this off until the last minute but this is what I was able to pull off in a few hours. The design is based on Disney's 1938 short Ferdinand the Bull. I took a shot at adding color but wasn't getting results I liked so I'll just leave it at this clay like material.

So this definitely a work in progress but time's a bitch so here it is.

Breaking Bad

Fifth season of breaking bad is coming up soon. I though it would be fitting to do a fan art. Also found an awesome artist - rich pellegrino, and really wanted to try his style.

Background would be nice, don't know if I have time to finish one.

B for Butcher final

Here's my butcher final. Kinda a big leap from my last post to this. Didn't really have time for color comps and stuff so I just went at it.

Heres some ideas for the letter B, Butcher

definitely procrastinating as well. I like both the middle and right one. Thoughts?

Hey guys, I decided to go with barge for my subject. I like the idea of a floating junk barge. I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do with composition. Definitely procrastinated on this one.

Challenge #2

Alright guys, great job on the first challenge.

We're continuing with the letter B. Any media allowed. Deadline on July 9.

Reminder: don't plan far ahead on the next few challenges. We expect to do some changes. We we're thinking about adding a specific theme to the letters, to make it less broad. Maybe combine two letters at the same time to speed things a bit. Or perhaps do theme rotations from one person to another.

Feel free to make suggestions.

Have fun guys.

Arctic Tomb Final?

Hey guys, I did some more work on my piece but I'm still not satisfied with it. Time to move on to B.

A for Archer Final

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think It really made a difference. I pumped up the contrast in areas I wanted the eye to go and softened up edges and toned down contrast in the back. I think this helped give a better initial read. On to B!

Also I changed the format to the original blogger format... I prefer it. what do you guys think?

the Aquarium

Meh... should probably have chairs

Anvil - German with "Chuch Windows"

I am a little bummed I was unable to try this out with my Wacom. Despite that though, I am happy with what came out, just need to raise the bar with the upcoming letter B.

Acrylics + Water Color

So I decided to work on Mr. Bat Ears and somewhat pleased with what I came out with. As I worked on this guy I felt like I wanted to add what type of alien gear he would use or maybe his ship but this is as far as I could get at the moment so I'll call this finished for now. On to the next one!

A couple of amazon sketches

Basically, experimented with pin-up and a comic style. Trying to see the gestures and costume as well.

I'm not having success with the color rendering at all, even tried pencil and watercolor, but still no luck...So, I'm continuing with the background/environment instead, treating it like Yee's ink project.

Here's what I have so far. I'm not sure if it's done. feedback welcome.

the Aquarium

So, here are a few thumbs of an idea I was messing with...will see how far I can go with this by Monday.

German Anvil

First layer of water color. Need better lighting.

A for Alien

I'm designing an alien! I'm leaning towards possibly a video game protagonist so I tried to create characters that I would like to play myself as well as getting certain designs out of my head to see how much I can push my character design skills. So far I'm liking the bottom row most so I might go with one of those guys.

Arctic Tomb Update

Hey guys, I did some refining and added some things. I had fun working on it so far. Let me know what you think.
German Anvil with "Church Windows." Need to figure a pleasing setting, and item configuration, but it should be fun to paint the metal texture.

Arctic Tomb lay-in

So here's the first lay in for the arctic tomb. Let me know what you guys think!
